The Bartizan a luxury boutique hotel in Galle Fort

Stay at the Bartizan a superb luxury boutique hotel located inside the historic world heritage site of Galle Fort, Sri Lanka.

The Bartizan Galle Fort

Located with the Galle Fort UNESCO world heritage site, The Bartizan is a luxury boutique hotel which opened in 2017,  the original structure was built during the Dutch colonial era in the early 17th century.

Situated alongside the Galle Fort perimeter walls, The Bartizan’s numerous balconies and unique towers offer splendid views of the Indian Ocean and Galle Fort. The Bartizan’s ambiance is a mix of old world charm and modern luxuries, offering a tranquil retreat in this charming town.

The Bartizan occupies a premier location in Galle Fort which is unlike any of the other hotels. It is located on the corner of Pedlar Street, where visitors come to roam, shop, eat and discover Sri Lanka's colonial heritage and culture, and Rampart Street, which is adjacent to the Ramparts, and the perimeter of the Fort. The hotel overlooks the Fort's perimeter and the ocean beyond affording gorgeous views of the sunset over the ocean.

Bartizan

The Bartizan was to be our first impression of Sri Lankan hospitality as Galle was the first stop on our hectic 12 day tour of the island. We had looked at a few hotels when deciding where to stay in Galle but we really liked the sound of the Bartizan and the friendliness of the staff during the booking process made us feel very comfortable. I used the online chat facility on the website to discuss what rooms were available on our desired dates and I was able to quickly make the booking online. I was a bit concerned about whether our check-in time of 4am would be an issue (we were due to arrive into Colombo airport at 2.30am) but this was absolutely fine as the Bartizan has a 24 hour reception. For the standard of accommodation, we considered the price to be very reasonable too.

On arrival at the Bartizan (at 4.30am) we were quickly and politely ushered to the reception desk and handed a refreshing drink before being taken to our room. We were upgraded to a better room too which is always a nice bonus! Our room was spacious, clean and the bed was so comfortable - exactly what you need when you've been travelling for 15 hours!

We had a delicious breakfast cooked for us in the morning, we both opted for banana pancakes with syrup, bacon and scrambled egg. The staff at the Bartizan were so generous and helpful to us, we were able to leave our big bags at the hotel all day whilst we were out sightseeing around Galle and we were offered a free pot of tea and cakes whilst we waited for our driver to pick us up in the afternoon!

The Bartizan was a great hotel for our brief visit to Galle and their welcoming staff gave us a great first impression of this wonderful country.
